18 September 2006 - Progress update
We're sure some of you are wondering when the next update will be and
what we've been up to lately - So we thought we'd tell you a little bit about what's been going on. We haven't
forgotten about you! We have just been (very) busy upgrading Runescript (our custom scripting language that we use to write
the game).
1 September 2006 - Behind the Scenes - September
Yes, September is here already and we've filled it with some really exciting
stuff!
We kick off the month with the next chapter of the Morytania storyline. The new Myreque base in Burgh de Rott seems to be safe for now, although some of the locals still succumb to the
ravages of nearby Vampyres. Without more help, surely there's nothing that the Myreque can do?
Or is there?
1 August 2006 - Behind the Scenes - August
Welcome to the Behind the Scenes – August edition!
For
many of us, August brings sun, holidays, cheap souvenirs and sunburn… but in RuneScape it’s
a whole different story! So, in no particular order….
Gnomes on holiday often miss the sweet taste of
home - so it's up to you to bring it to them all wrapped up in a gnome delivery bag! Players who have visited Aluft
Gianne’s restaurant in the Grand Tree may have offered to help out with orders in the past, but just keeping the restaurant
in stock of worm battas and fruit blasts is hardly a challenge for today’s gliding, spirit tree hopping adventurers.
So, in August, why not help out with Aluft Junior's Gnomic delivery service? Make the stuff and trek over the world delivering this, erm, “Gnourmet” food and you’ll
find you are rewarded with some very interesting gear as well as some vastly improved XP for the actual cooking. If you’re
really good, you may be able to get fresh gnome cuisine delivered to you!
3 July 2006 - Behind the Scenes - July
Another amazing month awaits those noble rune-clad,
hide-wearing, spell-firing, house-building and cat-chasing adventurers. In July we visit the Moon Clan, find out what happened
to the Fairy Queen, raid pyramids, unlock a whole new spell list, craft a new range of crossbows and bolts,
and use magic fairy rings to teleport about the map.
5 June 2006 - Behind the Scenes - June
Hello, and welcome to another exciting edition of Behind the Scenes,
where we let you know all about the exciting updates we are adding during the upcoming month. Obviously, we are expecting
lots of you will be happily sawing and building things, but we doubt you’ll be able to resist
the great new releases we have planned!
So, in no particular order...
2 May 2006 - Behind the Scenes - May
This month sees the launch of our next big game engine
upgrade, which Andrew has been working on for the last 6 months. This will be the biggest upgrade to the underlying engine
which runs the game since we launched the new 3D engine two years ago. This time the changes are more under the hood,
which means (if everything goes to plan) you shouldn't actually notice a huge amount of difference!
3 April 2006 - Behind the Scenes - April
This month we are releasing two quests based in the Varrock area. The first of these
tells the story of Tolna, a young lad who left Varrock years ago to seek his fortune. Little did he know that his journey
would only take him a few feet before the cruel hand of fate would snatch him up and throw him down into the pit of despair. Recent surface activity in the area has unearthed some dangerous crevices into the caves below. After
all these years, can the boy still be alive? And if so, what sort of condition will he be in? Adventurers willing to take
on these questions are sure to be faced with some difficult challenges but will be rewarded with new training areas
and some quite fantastic cutscenes.
6 March 2006 - Behind the Scenes - March
March brings new perils to RuneScape with two
updates to the Myreque storyline. The vampires of Morytania are once again hungry, and their lifeless eyes are transfixed
on the village of Burgh De Rott. The locals are pale and restless and have little left to give, but what can be done
against this vile oppressor? With many of the residents packing up and leaving, it won't take long until all the life has
been sucked out of Morytania. Perhaps the Myreque have an answer and maybe, just maybe, you could help to bring some hope to those desperately in need.
